New Orleans is preparing for an estimated 125,000 visitors and a presidential visit during the weekend of Super Bowl 59.

Super Bowl fans have arrived in New Orleans ahead of the big game on Sunday. And so have thousands of law enforcement officers. They’re a part of a new “enhanced security zone” that launched on Wednesday in the French Quarter. The area includes the first seven blocks of Bourbon Street off of Canal, along with Royal and Dauphine streets.

Over 2,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officers are on the ground in New Orleans to ensure massive crowds for Sunday's Super Bowl are safe.

Approximately 2,000 law enforcement officers will be present for the Super Bowl, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told reporters Wednesday. No vehicle traffic will be allowed on the Bourbon Street, and the city will block intersections leading to the most popular areas, Kirkpatrick said.

About 2,000 law enforcement officers will monitor New Orleans this week with the Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs set for Sunday. The surge in security comes just one month after the New Year's terror attack on Bourbon Street.

Patrons of the popular New Orleans entertainment district will be subject to search and seizures but legally owned firearms are permitted.

Despite heightened security measures in the French Quarter for Super Bowl week, Louisiana officials say legally carried firearms will still be allowed in the designated safety zone, despite ongoing concerns from city leaders.
