Rare-earth element - Wikipedia
In their oxides, most rare-earth elements only have a valence of 3 and form sesquioxides (cerium forms CeO 2). Five different crystal structures are known, depending on the element and the temperature.

Rare earth elements (REEs), which comprise of only 17 elements from the entire periodic table, play a critical role to our national security, energy independence, environmental future, and economic growth.
Rare earths | Institute for Rare Earths and Metals
The two most common structures formed by the rare earth ternary oxides are the perovskite, RMO3, and the garnet, R3M5O12, where M is a metal atom. The perovskite structure is a closed lattice with the R located at the eight corners of the unit cell.

Rare earth oxides: These rare earth oxides are used as tracers to determine which parts of a watershed are eroding [5]. Clockwise from top center: praseodymium, cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, samarium, and gadolinium.
Rare Earth Elements – A Subset of Critical Minerals
Rare earth elements (REEs)—a subset of critical minerals and materials (Figure 1)—are essential materials in a broad range of technologies significant to national security, energy systems, medicine, and consumer products (Figure 2).
Binary Rare Earth Oxides - SpringerLink
Binary Rare Earth Oxides is the first book in the field of rare earth oxides that provides coverage from the basic science through to recent advances. This book introduces the unique characteristics of the binary rare earth oxides with their chemistry, physics and applications.
Rare Earth Elements—Critical Resources for High Technology
2002年11月20日 · In 1949, a carbonatite intrusion with extraordinary contents of light REE (8 to 12% rare earth oxides [REO]), was discovered at Mountain Pass, in the upper Mojave Desert, California (fig. 5). The REE at Mountain Pass are hosted chiefly by bastnäsite, (Ce,La,Nd,…)CO 3 F, and related minerals.
Rare earth elements facts - Canada
2024年3月15日 · Canada has some of the largest known reserves and resources (measured and indicated) of rare earths in the world, estimated at over 15.2 million tonnes of rare earth oxide in 2023. Manufacturing permanent magnets is the largest global use for REEs, accounting for 44% of total demand in 2022.
